FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH MEDICATION ADHERENCE IN HYPERTENSIVE PATIENTS RECEIVING OUTPATIENT TREATMENT AT TIEN GIANG GENERAL HOSPITAL

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a leading cause of global mortality, affecting 1 billion people, with an anticipated increase to 1.5 billion by 2025. In Vietnam, 25% of the population suffers from cardiovascular diseases and hypertension, with a prevalence rate of 47.3% in adults. Objective: (1) Assessing adherence to medication treatment of hypertensive patients treated as outpatients at the Department of Examination - Tien Giang General Hospital in 2022; (2) Analysis of some factors affecting treatment adherence of hypertensive patients treated as outpatients at the Department of Examination - Tien Giang General Hospital in 2022. Materials and method: Patients aged 18 and above, undergoing outpatient hypertension treatment at the Cardiology Department of Tien Giang General Hospital. Result: Medication adherence rate is 61%; Female patients exhibit a 2.2 times higher adherence compared to males; Patients who are married and live with family members show a 1.9 times higher adherence; Patients with a disease duration exceeding 5 years demonstrate a 2.2 times higher adherence; Patients receiving information and advice on treatment adherence exhibit a 2.3 times higher adherence compared to those who do not receive such information.
