THE WIDTH OF THE ATTACHED GINGIVA ON MALE ADULTS
Main Article Content
Abstract
The attached gingiva is continuous with the marginal gingiva. It is firm, and tightly bound to the underlying periosteum of alveolar bone. The facial aspect of the attached gingiva extends to the relatively loose and movable alveolar mucosa, from which it is demancated by the mucogingival junction. The attached gingiva has important role protecting other periodontal tissues. Our research on male adults shows that: - The width of the attached gingiva is from 1.60 mm to 3.75 mm. - The width of the attached gingiva is highest at the maxillary second molar, and lowest at the mandibular second molar. - In male adults, the width of the attached gingiva is unchanging.
