CLINICAL AND MRI CHARACTERISTICS, SURGICAL OUTCOME OF INSULAR GLIOMA
Main Article Content
Abstract
Introduction: Insular gliomas are rare and pose significant challenges for neurosurgeon due to their complex location and proximity to critical functional areas. Methods: This study summarizes 11 cases of insular gliomas surgically treated at the Neurosurgery Department I, Viet Duc University Hospital, from January 2022 to August 2023. Results: 11 patients (8 males, 3 females) underwent surgery for insular gliomas, with a mean age of 37.4 years. The most common symptoms were headache (6/11 cases) and seizures (5/11 cases). The average tumor size was 53.3 ± 17.3 mm. Gross-total resection was achieved in 4/11 cases, while partial resection was performed in 7/11 cases. Histopathological examination revealed high-grade gliomas in 7/11 cases. Postoperative complications occurred in 2/11 cases. Conclusion: Tumor resection is an effective treatment method, improving symptoms, enhancing quality of life, and guiding subsequent treatment strategies.
