Abstract

Objective: To describe the current situation of medical examination and healthcare for the elderly in Quang Hung Ward, Thanh Hoa City, in 2024, while analyzing the demand for home healthcare and related factors. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 196 elderly individuals from January to November 2024. Results: All elderly individuals required medical examination in the past year, with 87.8% having sought medical care during their most recent illness. The demand for home-based medical care reached 91.3%, with 70.9% preferring treatment from commune healthcare staff. The most selected technical services were home medication injection and intravenous infusion (75%). The study also identified a statistically significant association (p < 0.05) between the demand for home-based medical care and factors such as gender, age, education level, cohabitation status, distance to healthcare facilities, occupation, economic conditions, health insurance coverage, and treatment costs. Conclusion: The demand for home healthcare among the elderly is relatively high. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and enhance professional capacity at the grassroots level to improve service quality, expand health insurance coverage, and alleviate the burden on public hospitals.
