Abstract

Objective: The study on 194 health workers aims to describe the management status and challenges for health-workers participating in the fight against COVID-19 at the provincial, district and commune levels in Binh Duong and Kien Giang provinces in 2021-2022. Method: Cross-sectional descriptive study. Results: Among 194 health-workers randomly participating in the study, the 30-39 age group accounted for the highest proportion at 43.3%, followed by the 18-29 age group at 33%. The age group over 50 accounted for only 7.7%. The proportion of female health-workers (56.8%) was higher than that of males. In 2021, only 36.3% of health-workers participated in the fight against the epidemic ≥ 1 time in another locality (1.1 ± 2.4 years) and the average participation time was 122 ± 85.7. In 2022, only 26.5% of medical staff in the two provinces participated in the fight against the epidemic in other localities (0.3 ± 0.6 years) and the average time participating in the fight against the epidemic was 53.9 ± 54.7. The tasks of medical staff at the three levels when participating in the fight against the epidemic in 2021 and 2022 had similar rates of directly treating COVID-19 patients in hospitals, directly treating COVID-19 patients in the community, and other support/indirect work. In 2022, the number of medical staff directly caring for F0 patients (in hospitals or colleges) was higher than in 2021 (60.0% compared to 54.7%), COVID-19 sampling in the community in 2022 (50.3%) also decreased compared to 2021 ((59.4%). The average time medical staff at 3 levels in contact with COVID-19 patients or suspected cases was less than 4 hours/day, accounting for the lowest rate in both 2021 and 2022. In 2021, the contact time with COVID-19 patients or suspected cases was ≥12 hours/day, accounting for the highest rate (36.5), while in 2022, the contact time from 8 to <12 hours/day accounted for the highest rate (37.9%). Conclusion: Medical staff participating in the fight against COVID-19 at 3 levels in the 2 provinces of Binh Duong and Kien Giang still face many challenges and are overloaded with physical health, long time participating in the fight against the epidemic, large workload, high number of infections and risk of COVID-19 infection.
