Abstract

Objectives: Describe some factors related to blood glucose control and cardiovascular risk in type 2 diabetes patients at Tra Vinh General Hospital. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study on 162 patients at the Cardiology - Geriatrics Department at Tra Vinh General Hospital from May 2024 to August 2024. Results: A family history of type 2 diabetes was absent in 53.7% of the patients. Among patients with type 2 diabetes, 106 individuals (65.4%) had cardiovascular diseases. All patients with type 2 diabetes had at least one comorbid condition, with the highest rate of patients having two comorbid conditions at 54.3%. Smokers had a 1.26 times higher rate of uncontrolled blood glucose levels compared to non-smokers. Patients with five cardiovascular risk factors had a 1.3 times higher rate of uncontrolled blood glucose levels compared to those with one cardiovascular risk factor. Conclusion: Our study found a relationship between blood glucose control and cardiovascular risk factors, particularly smoking. Smokers had a 1.26 times higher rate of uncontrolled blood glucose compared to non-smokers (PR=1.26, p=0.014, 95% CI 1.04-1.52). Additionally, patients with five cardiovascular risk factors had a 1.3 times higher rate of uncontrolled blood glucose compared to those with one cardiovascular risk factor (PR=1.3).
