Abstract
Objective: Evaluate the treatment outcomes of hydrocephalus in newborns using Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy (ETV), Choroid Plexus Cauterization (CPC) and External Ventricular Drainage (EVD). Method: Descriptive study was conducted on newborns diagnosed with hydrocephalus who underwent surgical intervention at the Central Pediatric Hospital from January 2020 to December 2024. Results: The mean age of patients was 11.1 ± 10.5 days. The youngest patient was 0 days old, while the oldest patient was 28 days old. 26.7% of patients were in severe clinical condition and required immediate surgery upon admission, 10% underwent emergency surgery within 1-2 days, and 63.3% were monitored for 3 days or more before surgery. 20% of patients had a thickened, opaque, and difficult-to-observe floor of the third ventricle. Patients showing good progression after surgery accounted for 84.5%. Conclusions: The surgical treatment of hydrocephalus in newborns using the endoscopic open method for accessing the floor of the third ventricle combined with choroid plexus coagulation and ventricular drainage is an effective and safe method.
