STUDY ON KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDES AND PRACTICES TO PRE-EXPOSURE PROPHYLAXIS (PREP) AMONG MEN WHO HAVE SEX WITH MEN (MSM) IN CAN THO CITY IN 2024

Abstract
Objectives: To determine the rate of knowledge, attitude and correct practice of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and some related factors among MSM in Can Tho City in 2024. Subjects and Methods: A analytical cross-sectional descriptive study with 300 MSM subjects aged 16 years and older from MSM venues in Can Tho City in 2024. Results: The proportion of correct knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) among MSM in Can Tho City in 2024 were 40.7%; 64%; and 40.7%, respectively. Factors associated with practice included age ≥ 25 years (OR=3.8; p=0.001), number of “regular” sexual partners ≥ 2 (OR=3.0; p=0.012), number of HIV tests ≥ 2 times (OR=7.0; p<0.001), correct knowledge (OR=2.8; p=0.002) and correct attitude (OR=3.5; p<0.001). Conclusion: The proportion of men who have sex with men in Can Tho city with correct knowledge and practice of pre-exposure prophylaxis is low and there is a relationship between knowledge, attitedes and correct practice. Appropriate interventions for MSM in HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) are needed.
