THE CORRELATION BETWEEN PERCEPTIONS OF PRACTICAL TRAINING IN THE LAB AND CONFIDENCE IN CLINICAL PRACTICE AMONG THE FACULTY OF NURSING AND MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY STUDENTS

Abstract
Introduction: Simulated experiences are recognized as an optimal strategy for bolstering student confidence, an indispensable quality in professional healthcare that fosters mutual respect between healthcare providers and patients. Objective: A survey on the correlation between perceptions of practical training in the Lab and confidence in clinical practice among the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Technology students. Objects and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 463 third-year (course 2021) and fourth-year (course 2020) students in the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Technology, Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine. Result: The perception of practical training in the Lab and students' confidence in clinical practice achieved mean scores of 4.11 ± 0.44 and 3.32 ± 0.81, respectively. There was a positive correlation between perception of practical training in the Lab and confidence in clinical practice (r = 0.17; p = 0.012). Academic year and field of study were significant factors influencing students' confidence in clinical practice (p < 0.001). Conclusion: The majority of students recognize the benefits of practical training in the Lab. However, their confidence in clinical practice remains at an average level. Therefore, the institution should intensify to implement supplementary activities aimed at enhancing students' confidence.
