Abstract

Objective: Evaluation of surgical results for patellar fracture treatment using No. 8 compression nail insertion technique in Can Tho from June 2021 to May 2022. Methods: Prospective study of 41 patients with patellar fractures who underwent surgery with a number eight compression nail at Can Tho Central General Hospital and Can Tho City General Hospital from June 2021 to May 2022. Result: After surgery, 87.80% had knee pain, 95.12% had knee swelling, 92.68% had knee heat, 58.54% had bruising and 9.76% had mild fever. During the postoperative period, only 7.32% of patients had only red, oozing legs and no cases of pus in the surgical wound were recorded. After 2 months, 100% had bone callus on the lateral knee X-ray. After 4 months, 85.37% had useful knee range of motion (> 120 degrees). After 4 months, 58.54% had no quadriceps atrophy (or atrophy < 12 mm), 31.71% had quadriceps atrophy of 12 - 25 mm and 9.76% of cases had a significant reduction in quadriceps atrophy > 25 mm compared to the healthy side. The complication of pain due to bone fixation device pressure after 2 weeks was 7.32%, after 2 months was 29.27% ​​and after 4 months increased to 39.02%. The complication of steel thread rupture occurred in 1 case after 2 months (2.44%). The result of knee joint rehabilitation after 4 months was very good 70.73%, good 26.83% and unsatisfactory 2.44%.
