Abstract

Objective: Comments on the relationship between duration of labor and maternal and fetal outcomes in full-term pregnant woman at Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional, retrospective study design on 306 full-term pregnant women, monitored labor at A2 department from April, 2023 to September, 2023. Results: Length of first stage, total first and second stage of labor have relationship with adverse maternal outcomes (p<0.05), in particular rate of postpartum hemorrhage and cesarean delivery, and adverse fetal outcomes (p<0.05). The rate of postpartum hemorrhage with the duration of first stage > 12 hours was 13,3%, 5 times of that with the duration < 6 hours. Length of second stage of labor is not associated with adverse maternal outcomes (p>0.05), but relative with undesirable neonatal outcomes (p<0.05). Conclusion: Prolonged labor has correlation with some adverse outcomes of mother and fetal, especially postpartum hemorrhage.
