Abstract

Objective: To determine the prevalence of different risk factor groups for venous thromboembolism (VTE) after cesarean section using the Caprini score at Nhan Dan Gia Dinh Hospital. Subjects and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 386 postpartum women to assess and classify VTE risk groups during pregnancy using the Caprini scoring system. Results: 54.7% of the participants in the study were classified as having a low risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE), 43% were in the moderate-risk group, and only 2.3% were in the high-risk VTE group. According to the Caprini score, all participants had the pregnancy and postpartum risk factors (100%). Other common risk factors included: surgery <45 minutes (63.2%), surgery >45 minutes (36.8%), obesity with BMI >25 (20.5%), age 41–60 years (5.2%), history of recurrent miscarriage or preterm birth (1.6%), heart failure (1.0%), leg swelling and bed rest (both 0.8%), and medical illness requiring only bed rest (0.5%). Conclusion: The majority of postpartum women after cesarean section in this study were classified as low risk for VTE according to the Caprini score; however, the Caprini score tended to assess a higher risk compared to obstetric-specific scoring systems
