Abstract

Objective: To describe the characteristics of patients and the outcomes of nursing care for glaucoma surgery patients at the Trauma – Glaucoma Department, Hanoi Eye Hospital in 2025. Methods: A prospective descriptive study was conducted on 130 patients who underwent glaucoma surgery at Hanoi Eye Hospital in 2025. Results: Regarding clinical characteristics, the majority of patients were over 60 years old (77.7%), followed by those aged 40–60 (13.8%) and under 40 (8.5%). Female patients accounted for 51.5%, while males made up 48.5%. Regarding nursing care, 80% of patients rated the nursing care as good. About 90% found the nursing instructions easy to understand and follow, and 66.2% felt very satisfied during hospitalization. In terms of patient counseling: 100% of patients were instructed on how to use medications, 87% were guided on eye hygiene, 47% were instructed on hand hygiene, 85.4% received guidance on monitoring complications, and 93.1% were advised on rest and daily activities. Conclusion: Glaucoma is a common disease with complex progression and can cause severe visual field damage even with treatment. Overall, nursing care was not yet optimal. Some care instructions were either incomplete or difficult to understand and implement. These findings provide a basis for improving and enhancing the quality of nursing care, aiming to improve treatment outcomes and patient satisfaction.
