EVALUATING THE EFFECTS OF THV HARD CAPSULES IN THE TREATMENT OF GASTRODUODENAL SYNDROME: SPLEEN-STOMACH DEFICIENCY COLD AND LIVER-QI INVADING STOMACH TYPES

Abstract
THV hard capsules are formulated from the "Trung hoa vi" (Stomach Neutralizing) remedy, consisting entirely of herbal ingredients including Ampelopsis cantoniensis (Chè dây), Saussurea costus (Mộc hương nam), Citrus reticulata (Trần bì), Phellodendron amurense (Hoàng bá), and Curcuma longa (Nghệ). While these herbs are widely used individually for treating various conditions, including gastroduodenal syndrome, no study has yet evaluated their combined effects within a single product. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of THV hard capsules in treating gastroduodenal syndrome of the "Spleen-Stomach Deficiency Cold" and "Liver-Qi Invading Stomach" types. Materials and Methods: We conducted a study on 52 patients with H. pylori-infected gastroduodenal syndrome, including 28 patients with the Spleen-Stomach Deficiency Cold type and 24 patients with the Liver-Qi Invading Stomach type. Patients in both groups were administered THV hard capsules twice daily. Clinical and subclinical examinations were performed before and after the intervention to evaluate therapeutic efficacy. Results: Most patients achieved "good" or "moderate" pain relief (92.9% in the Spleen-Stomach Deficiency Cold group and 95.8% in the Liver-Qi Invading Stomach group). There was no statistically significant difference in the rate of pain relief between the two types (p > 0.05). Regarding symptoms of belching and heartburn: the Liver-Qi Invading Stomach type showed faster improvement by the second week, while the Spleen-Stomach Deficiency Cold type reached its highest improvement rate in the third week (p < 0.05). The rate of "good" ulcer healing reached 67.8% (Spleen-Stomach Deficiency Cold) and 70.8% (Liver-Qi Invading Stomach). The efficacy of H. pylori eradication was 54.5% for the Spleen-Stomach Deficiency Cold type and 65% for the Liver-Qi Invading Stomach type (p > 0.05). Conclusion: THV hard capsules are effective in treating gastroduodenal syndrome in patients with both Spleen-Stomach Deficiency Cold and Liver-Qi Invading Stomach types.
