Abstract

Background: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is now becoming one of the most serious and leading to morbidity and mortality in the world as well as in Vietnam. Worldwide and in Vietnam, there have been studies to analyze the cost of COPD treatment and this is also one of the important steps to provide evidence on the economic burden of the COPD in Vietnam. Objectives: Analyzing the cost of treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at Son Tay general hospital. Method: A retrospective cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out on patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) collected data of medical records stored on the computer of Son Tay General Hospital from January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2021, satisfying the criteria. selection and exclusion. The study was conducted to analyze the direct costs for each treatment that the patient has to pay and the components of the treatment costs. Results: The direct cost for each treatment session was 6,420,319 ± 4,594,865 VND and the high cost components for this group of patients were the costs for drugs, tests and imaging. Conclusions: The study provides a realistic demonstration of the overall direct cost of a course of treatment and the cost of drugs, tests, and diagnostic imaging is the highest in the cost component for treatment.
