Abstract

Pemphigus has a mortality rate of 5-15% of all cases, with the most common cause of death being infection. This disease needs to be detected early and treated promptly, in order to minimize the rate of complications, morbidity and mortality. A cross-sectional study was conducted to describe the clinical and subclinical characteristics of pemphigus patients at the National Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology in 2021-2022. 42 newly diagnosed patients enrolled in the study. The results indicated that average age of of the patients was 54.3 ± 13.4. Age group 50-69 years old accounted for the largest proportion (61.9%). Patients were classified as having moderate disease at 61.9%. Pemphigoid patients had a relatively high prevalence of cardiovascular and diabetes co-morbidities (31% and 11.9%,). The proportion of patients with increased IgE and eosinophil levels was 16.7% and 9.5%, respectively.
