SURGICAL RESULTS OF GLIOBLASTOMA AT NATIONAL CANCER HOSPITAL

Abstract

Objectives: To describe glioblastoma patients' characteristics and surgical results at the K hospital. Subjects and methods: Cross-sectional tissue study on 34 glioblastoma patients who underwent surgery at K Central Hospital, Tan Trieu campus, from January 2019 to December 2020. Results: the majority of patients underwent cortical surgery (97.1%), the average surgical time of the study group was 286.9 ± 90.5 minutes, and most of the patients had a surgery time of 2-4 hours. Most patients had surgery to remove the maximum possible tumor (remove all and most of the tumor), accounting for 94.1%. Common complications during and after surgery were bleeding (8.8%), cerebral edema (11.8%), weakness, hemiplegia (20.6%), and seizures (5.9%). The average hospital stay of the study group was 13.9 ± 6.5 days. Conclusion: Glioblastoma surgery usually goes through the cortex, lasts 2-4 hours and common complications after surgery are hemiplegia, epilepsy, and bleeding. Most patients will be discharged from the hospital 1-2 weeks after surgery.
