OUTCOMES OF SURGERY IN TREATING COLON CARCINOMA CANCER AT VINH PHUC PROVINCIAL GENERAL HOSPITAL

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the treatment results of patients with colon carcinoma cancer undergoing surgery at Vinh Phuc Provincial General Hospital in the period January 2019 - December 2022. Stdy design: A cross-sectional study collecting retrospective data was conducted for this study. Participants were 99 colon cancer patients treated with surgery at Vinh Phuc Provincial General Hospital from January 2019 to December 2022. Results: During the study period, 99 patients had data collected. The average age is 65.6 years old. The most common clinical symptom is abdominal pain, accounting for 91.9%. Pathologically, 49.5% were ulcerative, 81.8% were moderately differentiated, and 82.8% were adenocarcinoma. Average surgery time was 172 minutes, with no difference between left and right sides; The most common complication is surgical wound infection (15.2%); The average postoperative hospital stay was 12.53 days. The average survival time after surgery is 21.83 months, stage IV is shorter than stages I, II, III; The chance of survival in patients with chemotherapy after surgery is higher than in patients without chemotherapy. Conclusion: The study shows good results in treating colon cancer in the hospital, as well as prolonging survival time for patients with colon cancer.
