Abstract

Objective: To describe the 6-minute walking test before discharge in inpatient heart failure patients and its relationship with readmission within 30 days in inpatient heart failure patients at the Department of Internal Medicine and Cardiology. - Duc Giang General Hospital. Subjects and methods: 77 patients ≥ 18 years old receiving inpatient treatment before discharge with indications to undergo 6-minute walking test from April 2023 to August 2023 at the Department of Cardiology - Duc Giang General Hospital. Results: The average distance traveled when performing 6-minute walking test in the general group was 224.0 ± 47.1m; The volunteer group walked 195.9 ± 46.1 m shorter than the KTNV group 231.4 ± 44.9m (p =0.006). Changes in blood pressure - heart rate, symptoms during exercise before - after doing 6-minute walking test: Normal at T0, increased at TD, gradually decreased at TD 3 and returned to baseline at TD 6. Changes in SpO2 before, after doing 6-minute walking test. At T0, it was normal, decreased at TD, gradually increased at TD 3 and returned to the original at TD 6. The average volunteer time of the group walking < 205m was: 19.1±2.0; 95% confidence interval: lower limit 15.2 – upper limit 19.1. The average volunteer time of the group walking ≥ 205 m was: 27.5 ± 0.6; 95% confidence interval: lower limit 26.4 – upper limit 23.1. Conclusion: The 6-minute walking test should be considered for implementation in heart failure patients before discharge to assess the level of exertion and advise patients on daily living and labor regimen after discharge.
