Abstract

Introduction: Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is currently regarded as a promising treatment option due to its minimally invasive nature and high efficacy in treating recurrent aphthous ulcers. Subjects and Methods: This study was conducted on 48 patients with recurrent aphthous ulcers at Hanoi University of Medicine from July 2023 to October 2024. Patients were randomly divided into two groups: one receiving LLLT and the other treated with triamcinolone gel. Results: The average age of participants was 38.1 ± 12.9 years, with females comprising 60.4% of the study population. The average number of ulcers per patient was 1.6 ± 0.8, and the average size of lesions was 5.1 ± 1.6 mm. Most patients reported pain levels on the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) ranging from 4 to 5 (64.6%). The LLLT group experienced significantly greater pain relief compared to the triamcinolone group, particularly during the first three days of treatment. Healing time was complete for both groups after 14 days, but the LLLT group exhibited a faster healing rate. Conclusion: Low-level laser therapy is an effective method for treating recurrent aphthous ulcers, demonstrating notable pain relief and accelerated healing compared to traditional treatments.
