Main Article Content
Abstract
A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 119 students at Quỳ Sơn Primary School, Quỳ Hợp District, Nghệ An Province, Vietnam using the Self-Regulation Questionnaire for Dental Home Care adapted to Vietnamese aiming to describe the motivation for oral health care at home among students. The results show that the majority of students (77.8%) exhibited good motivation for oral health care at home, with controlled motivation being more prevalent than autonomous motivation. The highest average scores for autonomous motivation were recorded for the factors "desire for self-care in oral health" and "perception of oral hygiene as beneficial." However, 22.2% of students demonstrated poor motivation, mainly due to a lack of awareness. The motivation for oral health care at home among primary school students was generally good, though there remains a need to strengthen dental education, particularly in disadvantaged areas, to enhance children’s awareness and autonomous behavior.
