Abstract

“Rau càng cua” (Peperomia pellucida L.) is widely distributed in Vietnam and is used in folk medicine and as a vegetable. This study was carried out to evaluate the antioxidant effects of total extract and fractions from the plant using the DPPH free radical scavenging reaction. The results show that the antioxidant effect increases in the order of total high < n-hexane high < water high < ethyl acetate high. Among them, ethyl acetate extract has the best effect with an IC50 of 388.91 µg/mL. These results provide evidence for the use of medicinal plants in folk medicine as well as a basis for further research on the chemistry and biological effects related to antioxidants.
