The majority of elderly people are female (62.6%) with an average age of 76.3 ± 7.8 years. Malnutrition showed a statistically significant association with depression (OR= 3.84; 95%CI 2.38 – 6.21; p<0.01). Risk factors such as: history of hospitalization in the past 12 months, inpatient treatment, urban living, anorexia, weight loss, polypharmacy and decline in daily functioning are associated. with depression. Conclusion: There is a need for routine screening and intervention strategies for risk factors for depression in patients with malnutrition.
