Abstract

Background: Hepatitis B, caused by hepatitis B virus (HBV), is a liver infection that threaten patients’ lives. Building knowledge capacity and prevention of HBV for pharmaceutical students is one of the most essential national control strategies towards hepatitis. Objectives: Survey on general knowledge and attitudes towards hepatitis B prevention among pharmaceutical students in Ho Chi Minh City and evaluate the differences between groups of students. Methods: A cross-sectional analysis was carried among 454 students from faculty of pharmacy at vietnam national university Ho Chi Minh city and Pham Ngoc Thach university of medicine. The data was analyzed using SPSS 20.0 and Microsoft Excel 2019. Results: Out of a total of 454 pharmacy students conducted on surveyed, 313 were female (68.9%) and 141 were male (31.1%) pharmacy students. The average score on knowledge, attitude of pharmacy students were 63.2/90 points, 17.2/25 points respectively. The proportion of students with knowledge, attitude correct relation to Hepatitis B were 51.3%; 43.0% respectively. The proportion of students with knowledge, attitude incorrect relation to Hepatitis B were 48.7%; 57.0% respectively. Conclusion: In general, students have unequal knowledge of HBV, the findings from our study highlight the immediate need to enhance the curriculum about hepatitis B management and prevention in Vietnamese medical schools.
