Abstract

5S is a quality management method widely applied around the world. Currently, there is lack of the information about the effectiveness of practicing 5S management methods in changing the quality of health care services. The impact of applying the 5S management method in the health care sector has been recorded in many studies around the world and in Vietnam. The objective of the study is to compare the change in 5S practices of medical staffs at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital after one year of intervention. Descriptive cross-sectional research method, sampling all medical staff at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital. Use JICA's 5S checklist. The results show that after one year of intervention, the proportion of healthcare workers with good 5S practices in all fields increased compared to the initial survey. In particular, the study found a statistically significant change in the field of Care and Treatment Services, increasing from 70.98% to 72.55%; The field of Quality of care and treatment increased from 64.71% to 76.47%; Cost sector increased from 55.69% to 56.86%; Transportation sector from 71.76% to 78.04%; The field of Ethics increased from 71.76% to 76.08% and the field of 5S Organization, quality improvement group increased from 63.53% to 69.41%.
