ANXIETY LEVEL OF PATIENTS BEFORE PLANNED SURGERY AT VINMEC TIMES CITY INTERNATIONAL GENERAL HOSPITAL IN 2023

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the patient's anxiety level before planned surgery at Vinmec Times City International Hospital in 2023 and identify some related factors. Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted from July 2023 to September 2023 with 210 patients who will undergo type II surgery or higher. Anxiety levels were evaluated using the HADS-A scale. Results: The rate of anxiety among patients before planned surgery was 66.2%; with real anxiety being 38.1%. Some factors related to to pre-operative anxiety: age group over 30 years old (OR=3.39; 95%CI: 1.48-7.76), never had surgery (OR=0.53 ; 95%CI: 0.29-0.95), no comorbidities (OR=0.50; 95%CI: 0.27-0.91), waiting time for surgery over 7 days (OR =3.32; 95%CI: 1.39-7.89), the hospital room atmosphere was gloomy, sad/normal (OR=2.14; 95%CI:1.15-3.99). Conclusion: It is necessary to promote psychological counseling and mental support for patients before planned surgery at Vinmec Times City International General Hospital.
