FACTORS AFFECTING THE LEARNING OF COMMUNICATION SKILLS AMONG NURSING STUDENTS AT TRA VINH UNIVERSITY IN 2022

Abstract

Background: Communication skills are considered a crucial and decisive factor for the success of nursing professionals in every aspect of patient care. Nursing students need to be well-trained and educated in these skills. However, there are numerous factors that influence the learning process of these skills among students. Therefore, the research is conducted to assess the various factors that impact the learning of communication skills among nursing students. Objectives: To determine the factors affecting the learning of communication skills and their correlation with the general characteristics of students. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional description along with a simple random sampling method was applied to 196 nursing students at Tra Vinh University who had taken the communication skills course in nursing practice. Results: Life skills and environmental factors influenced communication skill learning with rates of 52.04% and 52.55%, respectively. The study found a correlation between the age group and academic year of students and their communication skill learning (p < 0.05). Conclusion Solutions are needed to enhance communication skills and effective learning for nursing students.
