Abstract

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) of the stomach is the most common mesenchymal tumor in the digestive tract. Tumors often progress silently, with few clear symptoms in the early stages, so they are often discovered by chance or can be detected through clinical symptoms when the tumor is in a late stage. Imaging diagnostic tools that suggest diagnosis are gastric endoscopy, abdominal ultrasound, gastric radiography, computed tomography or abdominal magnetic resonance imaging. Most gastric stromal tumors are diagnosed by suspected on imaging and endoscopic studies, and confirmed by tissue acquisition with immunohistochemical staining
