Abstract

Objective: Describe the knowledge, attitudes, and needs for nutritional counseling for cancer patients of primary caregivers of cancer patients being treated at the oncology center of Nam Dinh Provincial General Hospital in 2020. Method: Cross-sectional descriptive study. Results: Research results on 232 primary caregivers of cancer patients showed that the majority were female (65.0%); The source of information about nutrition through friends and relatives is the largest 50.4%; Primary caregivers' nutritional knowledge for cancer patients: 85.3% believe that cancer patients need to eat a variety of foods; The majority agree not to use alcohol or tobacco (96.6%), 65.1% do not know the effects of omega 3 or EPA on cancer patients; 86.6% have sought information about nutrition for cancer patients, 96.6% need nutrition advice, 86.2% think nutrition plays an important role in treating the disease. cancer cause. Conclusion: Research has shown that there is still a high percentage of primary caregivers who do not have good knowledge and attitudes about nutrition for cancer patients. Most primary caregivers desire nutritional counseling. Health officials need to do better in health communication and education about nutrition for cancer patients and primary caregivers.
