EVALUATION ON THE EFFECT OF HERBAL COMPRESS BAG METHOD COMBINED WITH ELECTROACUPUNCTURE AND MASSAGE – ACUPRESSURE FOR SCIATICA

Abstract
Objective: 1. To evaluate the effect of using herbal compress bag combined with electroacupuncture and massage – acupressure for the treatment of sciatica. 2. Evaluate the side effects of the method. Subject and method: prospective, controlled, before - after treatment comparison intervention; 40 patients qualified were treated by electroacupuncture, massage – acupressure and herbal compress bag. Results: After 15 therapeutic days, the study group’s VAS decreased from 5.33 ± 1.05 points to 1.75 ± 1.15 points (p < 0.05); lumbar elongation increased from 2.08 ± 0.71 cm to 3.93 ± 0.54cm (p < 0.05); daily living function scale (Oswestry Disability Index - ODI) decreased from 49.2±9.43% to 24.3±9.89% (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Using Herbal compress bag method combined with electroacupuncture and massage - acupressure is effective on improving VAS, lumbar spine elongation and ODI in sciatica; no side effect has been recorded during the treatment.
