Abstract

Objectives: Assessing the quality of life of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma after hepatectomy at University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City. Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study on 90 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma treated by hepatectomy at the Department of Hepatobiliary Pancreatic Surgery, University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City during the period from November 2023 to March 2024, meets the sampling criteria and agrees to participate in the study. Results: Patients are mainly male, accounting for 77.8% and the average age is 59.02±11.8 years old. Disease duration is less than 3 months, accounting for 75.6%; 71.9% are in stage A; 51.1% had open surgery and 70% had minor hepatectomy. The average score of Quality of Life of patients with HCC one week after liver resection according to the QLQ-C30 scale is 76.2±9.6 and the QLQ-HCC18 scale is 83.4±8.2. In addition, this study also noted a relationship between the circumstances of cancer detection and quality of life scores according to the QLQ-C30 scale (p<0.05). Conclusions: The average score of quality of life of patients with HCC after hepatectomy based on the two scales QLQ-C30 and QLQ-HCC18 is relatively good and the combination of the two scales helps to more accurately evaluate the quality of life of patients with HCC.
