Abstract

Objective: Some factors related to tooth decay among 6-year-old students in Hanoi. Subjects and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study conducted in 191 6-year-old students (grade 1), studying at Khuong Thuong Primary School - Dong Da - Hanoi. Results: Cavities in dentin found during examination had a 9.38 times higher risk of developing tooth decay (OR; 95%CI: 9.38; 1.18-426.45); Opaque white spots on the tooth surface detected during examination have a 10.72 times higher risk of tooth decay (OR; 95%CI: 10.72; 1.51-463.66); Large visible plaque on teeth will increase the risk of tooth decay by 4.72 times (OR; 95%CI: 4.72; 1.05-21.13); Teeth with deep grooves increase the risk of tooth decay by 14.93 times (OR; 95%CI: 14.93; 2.20-633.41); Not brushing teeth with fluoride toothpaste daily will increase the risk of tooth decay by 8.88 times (OR; 95%CI: 8.88; 1.12-70.13); Not using fluoride mouthwash daily will increase the risk of tooth decay by 3.32 times (OR; 95%CI: 3.32; 0.94-11.65). Conclusion: There are many factors related to tooth decay in children.
