FACTORS RELATED TO NURSES' KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDE ON PAIN MANAGEMENT FOR POST-SURGERY PATIENTS

Abstract
Research objective: Determine the rate of knowledge and correct attitudes about post-operative pain management among nurses and related factors. Participants and methods: A cross-sectional study on 115 nurses working in departments of Nguyen Dinh Chieu Hospital, Ben Tre province in 2023 using convenience sampling method. Results: The study showed that nurses had correct knowledge and attitudes about pain management for patients after surgery at 43.5% and 35.7%. The results showed that nurses who participated in training sessions, workshops, and seminars on pain relief had a higher rate of correct knowledge about pain management for patients after surgery. In addition, nurses have confidence when using pain assessment tools as well as confidence when managing pain and have a more positive attitude to pain management for patients after surgery. Conclusions: Knowledge and attitudes about pain management for patients after surgery by nurses at Nguyen Dinh Chieu hospital, Ben Tre province are quite good. Medical facilities need to pay more attention to organizing training courses and continuous training to update new guidelines on pain management.
