EFFICACY OF FLUCONAZOLE SUBCONJUNCTIVAL INJECTION AS ADJUNCTIVE THERAPY FOR FUNGAL CORNEAL ULCER AT THAI BINH EYE HOSPITAL IN 2023

Abstract

Purpose: Efficacy of fluconazole subconjunctival injection as adjunctive therapy for fungal corneal ulcer at thai binh eye hospital in 2023. Materials and methods: Randomized controlled clinical trial in patients diagnosed with fungal corneal ulcers, Inpatient and outpatient treatment at the Cornea - Cornea Department, Thai Binh Eye Hospital from 01/2023 to 10/2023. Results: Study on 56 patients with 56 eyes with fungal corneal ulcers. The cure rate of 28 patients injecting 1 ml of Fluconazole 2% under the conjunctiva was 89.3% and the average treatment time was 32.38 ± 15.01 days. 28 patients in group I 64.3% and the average treatment time was 39.27 ± 11.21. Of the 28 patients in group I, visual acuity increased in 33.1%, stabilized in 47.4%, and decreased in 19.3%. Of the 57 patients in group I, visual acuity increased in 32.8%, stabilized in 25.0%, and decreased in 42.9%. Among 35 patients with subconjunctival injection, 28.6% of patients had mild pain at the injection site, 11.4% of patients had subconjunctival hemorrhage and no systemic or other local side effects were seen after injection. Conclusion: Fluconazole 2% subconjunctival injection once a day combined with a regular antifungal regimen is effective in treating fungal corneal ulcers. Especially in severe clinical cases with deep parenchymal abscesses to avoid surgical intervention in the acute phase
