SITUATIONS ON THE ELDERLY’S KNOWLEDGE OF NON-COMMUNICABLE DISEASES AS WELL AS THEIR TREAMENT AND PREVENTIVE CARE IN COMMUNES OF NAM DINH PROVINCE IN 2023

Abstract
Introduction: Non-communicable diseases make a lot of adverse effects on public heath and socio-economic development. A significant number of patients as well as an increase in death rate caused by non-communicable diseases is found. Among them are highly participated by the elderly, especially suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes. On the other hand, just a small portion of the old are provided knowledge on these diseases. Even these people, who are aware of themself suffering from the diseases, hardly reach a proper examination and treatment. Objective: To specify the rate of the elderly who are aware of non-communicable diseases as well as their behaviours of treament and preventive care within communes and wards of Nam Dinh Province in 2023. Research methodologies: A cross section research has been conducted among 384 old people in four communes and wards of Nam Dinh. Findings: 77.6 percent of interviewee acknowledge the high blood pressure disease is characterized by the maximum blood pressure index exceeding 140mmHg. 30.2 percent know the minimum blood pressure index exceeding 90 mmHg. 39.6% of the elderly are aware that the blood sugar level > 5,0mmol/L during hunger expresses diabetes. 13.3% has never experienced blood pressure monitoring; 22.1% of the old have been tested their blood sugar levels in recent time. Periodic health examination: Among the patients (examined and diagnosed), 54.6% of high blood pressure and 29.4% of diabetes have been periodically examined. The high-aged patients changing their lifestyle and dietary account for 53.7% and 70.6% regarding high blood pressure and diabetes respectively. The percentages without change are 46.3% and 29.4% regarding high blood pressure and diabetes respectively. Conclusion: The percentage of the old who acknowledge the indice of high blood pressure and diabetes remains low. It is alarmed that just a small number of high-aged patients have approached periodical examination and continuous treatment. Solutions are needed for those to realize the importance of periodical health monitoring and continuous treatment if suffering from the diseases.
