Abstract

Introduction: Previous studies in Vietnam have analyzed the effects of macrovascular complications (MCV) and microvascular complications (mcv) on the quality of life of type 2 diabetes patients. However, no studies have explored this effect by type of complication. Materials and Methodology: A cross-sectional descriptive study at Thong Nhat Hospital and Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital (2023) to analyze the association of specfic types of MCV and mcv on the quality of life of type 2 diabetes patients. Results and Discussions: The results showed that having complications reduced the quality of life scores of patients with type 2 diabetes, with the EQ-5D-5L (and VAS) scores of patients without complications, with mcv, and with MCV were 0.88 (77.13); 0.85 (72.44); 0.79 (64.26), respectively. Types of complications with low quality of life scores include neurological complications (burning sensation in hands/feet; constipation), retinal complications (blurred vision; visual deterioration), foot complications (itching, numbness, pain/heat), cerebrovascular disease (cerebral infarction) (p<0.05). Conclusion: Research results showed that patients with type 2 diabetes with complications have a lower quality of life than those without complications, and people with type 2 diabetes have a lower quality of life than those with type 2 diabetes. Neurological complications, retinal complications, foot complications, and cerebrovascular disease need to be given more attention in the process of controlling and treating the disease in patients with type 2 diabetes.
