Abstract

Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effects of Mg ZK60 plates on some hematological and biochemical indices in experimental animals. Methods: 84 adult white rabbits (1.8 - 2.5kg) were randomly divided into 3 groups, each group of 28 animals. Then they were implanted with or without HA-coated Mg ZK60 plates or Titanium plates. We evaluated some hematological and biochemical indices before and after surgery 3 days, 1 week, 1 month, 2 months, 3 months and 6 months. Results: Red blood cell count at day 90 and day 180 after surgery was statistically significantly greater than before surgery in the HA-coated and uncoated ZK60 groups (p<0.05 and p< 0.001) while there was no statistically significant difference in the Titan group (p>0.05). White blood cell count increased from day 3 to day 90 after surgery and was statistically significantly greater than before surgery in all three study groups (p<0.01 and p<0.001). Plasma urea and creatinine concentrations from 3 days to 60 days after surgery were statistically significantly lower than before surgery in all study groups (p<0.05). Conclusion: Mg ZK60 plates as well as Titanium plates have little effect on hematopoietic function, liver and kidney function in experimental animals.
