HEALTH-CARE SEEKING BEHAVIOR OF PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE IN HANOI NEPHROLOGY HOSPITAL IN 2023

Abstract
Background: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 430 patients with chronic kidney disease at the Department of Examination - Hanoi Nephrology Hospital in 2023. Aims: to describe the situation of the health care seeking behavior of adult patients with CKD and identify some related factors to patient’s health care seeking behavior. Results: Mean of age 61.92±12.99, 50.9% of male, 86.5% of education level from high school or below, 40% patients who live in urban, 68.8% CKD stages 1-3; 74% patients CKD with other non-communication diseases (NCDs); 67.9% of patients had appropriate health care seeking behavior when having signs/symptoms or being diagnosed with CKD (access public general hospital, private hospital or Hanoi Nephrology Hospital). Factors were affecting the CKD patient's health care seeking behavior include: age, marriage status, length of hospital treatment and disease stage. Conclusion: it is necessary to strengthen communication activities, improve community’s knowledge about CKD as well as other non-communication diseases, and promote access health care services to people. Hanoi Nephrology Hospital needs to support network units in screening and early detection of CKD in the community, improve early management of patients to minimize complications of the disease and reduce treatment costs.
