STUDYING EARLY OUTCOMES OF LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY ACUTE APPENDICITIS IN THE ELDERLY AT CAN THO CENTRAL GENERAL HOSPITAL

Abstract

Objective: The study aims to: Evaluate early results of laparoscopic surgery to treat acute appendicitis in elderly people treated at Can Tho Central General Hospital. Methods: Designed a descriptive, retrospective and prospective cross-sectional study on 68 patients ≥ 60 years old who were examined, diagnosed with acute appendicitis and underwent laparoscopic appendectomy at the Department of General Surgery – Diseases at Can Tho Central General Hospital from March 2022 to March 2024. Result: Results of laparoscopic surgery: Surgery time < 60 minutes accounts for the highest rate of 60.3%. The abdominal cavity had pus and cloudy fluid in 64.4%; Abdominal fluid in 15.1%. The appendix has purulent inflammation in 20.5% and necrosis in 69.9%. The average time of using pain medication after surgery was 3.14 ± 1.26 days. The average time to flatus after surgery is 22.14 ± 13.68 hours. The average duration of antibiotic treatment after surgery was 3.22 ± 1.22 days. The average hospital stay after surgery was 3.32 ± 1.34 days. The rate of early postoperative complications is 4.1%. The rate of patients achieving good results is 95.9%; the average outcome was 2.7% and the poor outcome was 1.4%.
