Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to describe the occlusal status in patients with osteogenesis imperfecta (OI). Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study recruited 36 children and adults with OI, aged 12 years and older, with permanent dentition. All participants were clinically examined to determine malocclusion types. Results: Class III malocclusion was present in most patients, accounting for 72%, including: 50% in patients with type I OI; 84.6% in patients with type III OI and 70.6% in patients with type IV OI. Anterior crossbite was observed in 72.2% of the cases, with type III and type IV OI patients having anterior crossbite rates of 84.6% and 70.6%, respectively. Posterior crossbite prevalence was 55.6%. Anterior open bite was present in 25%, and posterior open bite in 30.6%. Conclusion: Patients with OI have a high prevalence of class III malocclusion, open bite, and crossbite.
