EVALUATION OF PAIN LEVEL DURING SALINE INFUSION SONOHYSTEROGRAPHY AT CAN THO OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY HOSPITAL
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Saline infusion sonohysterography (SIS) is being widely used in evaluating abnormalities of the uterine cavity. Pain is the most common adverse effect of SIS and affects patients' acceptance of the procedure. Objective: To assess the level of pain according to and factors related to pain severity due to SIS. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 139 women undergoing SIS from November 2023 to March 2024 at Can Tho Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital. Rusults: The average pain score caused by SIS is 3.92 ± 1.78 cm. The proportion of painless SIS procedures was 7.2% [95% CI: 3.9-12.9%], mild pain was 33.8% [95% CI: 26.4-42.1%], moderate pain was 52.5% [95% CI: 44.2-60.7%], and severe pain was 6.5% [95% CI: 3.4-12%]. The statistically significant factors associated with moderate to severe pain included: the number of vaginal deliveries, pre-procedural anxiety level, and the total volume of saline solution injected (p<0.05). Conclusion: SIS induces pain ranging from mild to severe in 92.8% of cases. Comprehensive procedural information and appropriate pain management are essential for nulliparous women or those experiencing significant pre-procedural anxiety.
