Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the results of echocardiography in patients after heart transplant at Viet Duc University Hospital. Methods: a retrospective, descriptive study was conducted in 32 patients receiving heart transplants at the Cardiovascular and Thoracic Center, Viet Duc University Hospital in the period 2011-2020; Using transthoracic echocardiography to evaluate the heart function of patients after heart transplant with 3 time points: day 1, day 3 and day 20 after heart transplant. Results: Parameters assessing left ventricular systolic function (Fs, EF, simpson EF) tended to increase slightly on the first day. Evaluation of right ventricular function showed that TAPSE and FAC parameters changed gradually over ultrasounds, the change was statistically significant (p<0.05). The right ventricle dilates early after surgery but gradually contracts over time. Pericardial effusion appeared early after heart transplant, with no evidence related to transplant rejection and decreased to almost normal on the 20th day after transplant. Conclusion: Transthoracic echocardiography is a non-invasive method that allows assessment of cardiac function after transplantation. It is necessary to conduct more research in the future to evaluate surgical outcomes after heart transplantation through the use of transthoracic echocardiography
