RESULTS OF INFECTION CONTROL IN THYROID SURGERY WITHOUT USE OF ANTIBIOTIC PROPHYLAXIC AT 108 MILITARY CENTRAL HOSPITAL

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the results of incision infection control in thyroid surgery without prophylactic antibiotics at 108 Central Military Hospital. Subjects and methods: A prospective study on 396 patients underwent thyroid surgery without prophylactic antibiotics from January 2022 to June 2023 at Department of Thoracic Surgery – 108 Military Central Hospital. Results: There were 396 thyroid operations without prophylactic antibiotics, of which 344 female and 52 male, the female/male ratio was 6.6/1. The mean age was 44.7±14.3. Thyroid cancer accounts for the highest rate of 82.3%. The rate of total thyroidectomy ± central cervical lymph node dissection is the highest (43.9%). The mean surgical time was 87.3 ± 19.4 minutes, the mean postoperative time was 2.3 ± 1.7 days. There were 11 patients transitioned to antibiotic treatment after surgery. The nomal healing incision rate was 92.9%. There were 2 patients with surgical site infections that required antibiotic treatment (0.51%). Conclusion: Thyroid surgery without prophylactic antibiotics has good results in preventing surgical site infections, reducing costs and reducing the rate of antibiotic resistance in hospitals.
