EPIDEMIOLOGICAL, CLINICAL AND PARACLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF SEASONAL INFLUENZA IN CHILDREN AT THE HAI DUONG CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL

Abstract
Objective: To describe the epidemiological, clinical and paraclinical characteristics of children with seasonal influenza treated at the Hai Duong Children's Hospital. Subjects: 151 children were diagnosed with seasonal influenza and treated at the Hai Duong Children's Hospital from July 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024. Methods: There was a cross-sectional descriptive study. Results: The mean age of patient was 44.69 months (range from 1.3 to 164.4 months), with children between 12-60 months was the most common. The prevalance of influenza A infection was 89.4%, and influenza B constituted for 10.6%. The highest incidence was occurred during the winter season. The common clinical manifestation were high fever (98.7%) with an average temperature of 39.17°C ± 0.7°C, cough (80.1%), and rhinorrhea (53%). Other symptoms such as headache, myalgia, seizures, vomiting and diarrhea were less common. The paraclinical showed that 32.2% of patients had leukocytosis and 4.7% had leukopenia. 76.4% of patients did not exhibit elevated CRP levels (<10 mg/L). Conclusion: The most common group of influenza infection was children aged between 12-60 months. The clinical and investigation presentation were unspecific.
