Abstract

Objectives: To describe the epidemiological, clinical characteristics and outcomes of patients undergoing secondary rhinoplasty with autologous rib cartilage to repair complications after rhinoplasty with artificial materials at Viet Duc University Hospital. Methods: Patients undergoing secondary rhinoplasty using autologous rib cartilage to repair complications after rhinoplasty with artificial materials at Viet Duc University Hospital from 2021 to 2023 were included in the study. The study employed a descriptive prospective cross-sectional approach. Results: All patients are female (100%), the majority of patients are under 40 years old (88,9%), 100% have previously rhinoplasty with Silicone material. Reasons for examination include: risk of exposing old material, too high nose dorsum, nasal tip contracture (equal 55.5%), deviated nose dorsum (33.3%), and low nose dorsum (22.2%). Reconstructive materials include costal cartilage alone (44.4%), costal cartilage combined with superficial temporal fascia (55.6%). All patients were satisfied with the surgical results. There were 2 cases of complications showing subcutaneous cartilage morphology, which did not require intervention or repair. Conclusions: Secondary rhinoplasty using autologous rib cartilage to repair complications after rhinoplasty with artificial materials is a safe surgery, with few complications and brings results as well as high patient satisfaction.
