Abstract

Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is one of common congenital heart diseases that creates abnormal circulation between the systemic circulation and pulmonary circulation, and is often treated with transcatheter closure, surgical ligation or cutting of PDA. The method of transcatheter closure of PDA has shown many advantages such as being less invasive, highly effective, causing less complications, and it is increasingly widely used. However, this procedure still has certain complications, and one of which is device embolization which is dangerous and difficult to handle. This article reports a case of PDA device embolization at Cardiovascular Center of Ha Noi Medical University Hospital, who is a 46-year-old male patient undergoing transcatheter closure of PDA. One day after the intervention, an abnormality is shown on the echocardiography result. After checking with fluoroscopy, it was found that the device has embolized into the abdominal aorta. Therefore, transcatheter closure was performed again, and the device has been successfully retrieved with a snare.
