Abstract

Objective: Survey of characteristics of patients with early-stage glottic laryngeal cancer at Cho Ray Hospital. Subjects and methods: Patients diagnosed with early-stage glottic laryngeal cancer underwent fronto-lateral laryngectomy at Cho Ray hospital from September 2020 to June 2021. Results and discussion: The ratio of smoking patients was 3:1; the number of patients with comorbidities accounted for approximately 42,4%. Clinical characteristics: 100% of patients came to the hospital because of hoarseness, the time from symptom onset to surgery was more than 6 months for the majority of patients. Characteristics of endoscopic lesions: verrucous lesions accounted for 75,7%; ulcers were 18,2% and polyps were 6,1%. TNM grading: stage T1a; T2 and T1b account for 57,6%; 33,3% and 9,1%, respectively. Characteristics on CT scan: about a quarter of cases had space-occupying mass on CT scan. Pathology results: squamous cell carcinoma accounted for 100%. Conclusion: Currently, thanks to the development of diagnostic tools, laryngeal cancer has been detected earlier. However, the time from symptom onset to surgery in most patients was still over 6 months. Early-stage glottic laryngeal cancer in the study had the majority of verrucous lesions and all were squamous cell carcinoma.
