Abstract

The study aimed to characterize the fungal etiology in COVID-19 patients with fungal blood infection. Cross-sectional, retrospective descriptive study of 51 COVID-19 patients with fungal blood infection at the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases and the COVID-19 Hospital Patients from January 2022 - June 2023. Of the 51 patients, the male/female ratio was 3/1, average age 57.4±19.38, 49% were 60 - 80 years old, 23.5% had HIV co-morbidity. The level of severe and critical COVID-19 accounted for 68.6%. Caused by C.albicans: 29.4%, P.marneffei: 25.5%, C. tropicalis: 21.6%, other causes were less than 10%. C.albicans was more common than other causes in patients with central venous catheterization and invasive mechanical ventilation, p < 0.05. P. marneffei was most common in patients with HIV with 83%, p < 0.05. C.albicans and C.tropicalis were still susceptible to many antifungal drugs, while C.tropicalis was less susceptible to fluconazole: 27.3%. Conclusion C.albicans, C.tropicalis and P.marneffei were common causes of funfal blood infection in COVID-19 patients. Fungi were sensitive to many antifungal drugs, however C. tropicalis was less sensitive to fluconazole
