Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the impact on heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, SPO2, and the adverse effects of ondansetron combined with dexamethasone in preventing nausea and vomiting after laparoscopic appendectomy at 175 Military Hospital from January 2021 to May 2022. Subjects and Methods: This was a prospective, descriptive study comparing two groups. Group O received 4 mg of ondansetron, and Group OD received 4 mg of ondansetron combined with 4 mg of dexamethasone. Results: Heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, and SPO2 levels in both groups were stable and did not change significantly 24 hours after surgery, with no statistically significant differences. Common adverse effects in Group O included dizziness (20.4%), headache (8.2%), tremors (6.1%), itching (2.1%), heartburn (2.1%), and cough (2.1%). In Group OD, common adverse effects were dizziness (16%), tremors (18.4%), and headache (10.2%), with no statistically significant differences between the two groups. Conclusion: The use of ondansetron combined with dexamethasone for preventing nausea and vomiting after laparoscopic appendectomy is relatively safe.
