PSYCHOLOGICAL – MOTOR DEVELOPMENT IN CHILDREN WITH EPILEPSY ONSET BEFORE 6 MONTHS OLD AT THE NATIONAL CHILDREN’s HOSPITAL
Main Article Content
Abstract
Objectives and Methods: Cross-sectional30 descriptive study on 104 patients with epilepsy onset under 6 months old whose mental-motor development was assessed using the Denver II scale at the National Children's Hospital from 2023 to 2024 Results: In 104 cases, the male:female ratio was 1.4:1 and most had seizure onset after 1 month of age (73.1%) with an average age of seizure onset of 3.2 months ± 1.7 months. Most patients have mental-motor retardation, accounting for 72.1%, of which 32.7% have severe retardation. Of the four areas, the language area has the highest rate of developmental delay (68.3%), of which 46.2% are severely delayed. Conclusions: Patients with epilepsy onset under 6 months old are often accompanied by delayed mental-motor development, especially in the area of language. There is a statistically significant relationship between early age of epilepsy onset, high current seizure frequency, and drug resistance with the patient's mental-motor retardation.
